Tech Mahindra’s parent company, the Mahindra Group, is a federation of over 150 companies and 250,000 employees spanning 22 industry segments. The Rise of Tech Mahindra
Tech Mahindra today is the history of two companies, Mahindra British Telecom (MBT) in 1986 and Satyam Computer Services in 1987. Almost four decades after entering the automotive market, M&M and British Telecom joined to start what would officially become Tech Mahindra in 2006.
Satyam would become one of India’s top IT companies by the 2000s before a corporate scandal erupted in 2008. Revelations of accounting falsification and fraud led to a swift response from partners and financial institutions, and a valuable opportunity for TechM.
With over 50,000 employees and a billion in revenues, Satyam would join Tech Mahindra and take the name Mahindra Satyam in 2013. The new entity would become India’s fifth-largest IT company (only behind HCL, Infosys, Wipro, and TCS).
Growth, Acquisitions, and Finances
Since the merger of Satyam and TechM, the enterprise vendor has made several acquisitions to reinforce client needs for modern IT environments. The company has over two dozen acquisitions in all, with a frenzy in the last few years:
2017: SOFGEN Holdings; HCI Group
2019: The Born Agency; Mad*Pow; Dynacommerce; Zen3 Infosolutions
For the fiscal year ending in March 2021, Tech Mahindra reported annual revenue of $5.1 billion with almost $600 million in profit. In 2022, the company has more than 145,000 associates working in 90 countries with nearly 1,2000 clients.
Company leaders hold hands after the official merger of Satyam and TechM in 2013.
