EPAM: Company Background
Former grade school classmates Arkadiy Dobkin and Leo Lozner launched EPAM Systems in 1993 between their living spaces in New Jersey and Belarus.
Three decades later, EPAM is an end-to-end IT services leader with almost 53,000 employees across five continents and 40 countries. Headquartered in Newtown, Pennsylvania, the bulk of current operations remains split between North America (60%) and Europe (33%).
Growth, Acquisitions, and Financials
The company’s earliest work involved developing a Salesforce Automation solution, which led the vendor into the product development space and partnering with global leader SAP AG.
By the mid-2000s, EPAM expanded operations from North America to Europe with its first acquisitions – Fathom Technology in 2004 and VDI in 2006. A decade and a half later, the vendor’s acquisitions total almost 40 companies, including NetSoft, Jointech, Alliance Global Services, Continuum, PolSource, White-Hat, and Optiva.
In February 2012, the budding enterprise partner became the first company from Belarus to IPO, taking on the eponymous ticker symbol EPAM on the New York Stock Exchange. Consistent growth through the 2010s earned EPAM over $2.6 billion in annual revenue in 2020. In December 2021, the company first appeared on the S&P 500 and held over $25 billion in market capitalization.
