Online
backup and disaster recovery specialist KineticD announced the beta version of
its hybrid cloud backup software solution, KineticCloud for Servers. Hybrid
cloud backup, also called disk-to-disk-to-cloud, is an alternative to tape as a
backup medium for data stored in files and databases.

Key
KineticCloud for Servers features include global source-side block-level deduplication
for faster backup times; incremental backups and open file protection;
agentless deployment; granular scheduling; native support for Microsoft Small
Business Server, Exchange (Full and Mailbox level), Outlook, SQL and Hyper-V
(at the hypervisor level); and backup and restore from hundreds of endpoints.

According
to Forrester Research, the global cloud computing market will grow from $40.7
billion in 2011 to $241 billion in 2020. With such rapid growth in cloud
computing providers, Forrester said many online backup companies can be
surprised by the time it takes to restore lost data from the cloud.

“IT
managers and their resources are always at capacity. Businesses run a fine line
of having enough resources and also ensuring that those resources are
maximized,” said Eric Klein, senior analyst with VDC Research. “KineticCloud
for Servers next-generation data backup and disaster recovery solution means
businesses can rest assured that their backups are comprehensive without
compromising network resources like storage and bandwidth.”

KineticCloud
for Servers, a hybrid backup solution, offers a solution to the problem by
allowing businesses to keep a copy of their data on a local server as well as a
complete copy of their data in the cloud, allowing for immediate restoration of
critical data in the event of a disaster.

KineticCloud
Backup for Servers includes native integration for many business applications
and a host of features designed and optimized for local and cloud server
environments, allowing IT administrators to manage data backups using familiar
granular backup schedules and retention policies that adhere to internal
company guidelines. As with all KineticD products, this offering includes
automatic, continuous backups with KineticD’s Pause/Resume capabilities. In
addition, its agentless backup capabilities deliver scalability while providing
IT administrators with the ability to manage, view and control systems from a
single, Web-based point of administration.

“There
are many challenges that SMBs face when looking to virtualize their data, not
the least of which is easy accessibility, reliability of data stored in the
cloud and easy access to that data in case of a disaster,” said Jamie Brenzel,
CEO of KineticD. “That’s why we went the distance to develop a true hybrid
cloud solution with KineticCloud for Servers.”
