For years, the Linux Professional Institute has offered the most important basic Linux worker certification, the LPIC. On Aug. 16 at LinuxWorld in San Francisco, the organization launched a new employment and contract matching service for open-source workers who are registered on LPI’s internal exam candidate database.
The new program will match qualified open-source workers with employers and contract opportunities. Although the program will focus on LPI-certified Linux professionals it also welcomes other system and network administrators to register, obtain an LPI ID number and provide their skills profile for this matching service. The program will be piloted in North America, Latin America, China, India and Germany.
According to Jim Lacey, LPI’s president and CEO, the program came about due to overwhelming demand from Fortune 100 IT companies from around the world. "LPI is recognized globally as having highly qualified, skilled and accredited IT professionals. Our certification program is respected for its dedication to skills development and professionalism as opposed to being a tool to sell software and training services," Lacey said, in a statement.
Lacey also said this is the first skills databank of its kind devoted just to open-source professionals. Lacey announced the program at a special LPIC Alumni reception at LinuxWorld, sponsored by Prosoft Training and Thomson Prometric.
