Who says Android is not ready for business? Certainly not thin-client computing giant Wyse Technology, which has introduced a new mobile app for the Android platform which allows users to access Windows 7 via their Android device.
Wyse has announced a public beta of its Wyse PocketCloud application for Android, available immediately as a free download in the Android Market. Wyse has previously offered a mobile app for Apple iPhones and iPads, bringing a virtual version of Windows 7 to those platforms as well.
Wyse said it made the move to expand its PocketCloud platform support “in light of the explosive growth in Android-based mobile platforms.”
Wyse PocketCloud allows end users to access Windows PCs, Remote Desktop Services and virtualized desktop infrastructures based on the Microsoft RDP protocol.
Wyse says it is the only client that is VMware Ready Certified for VMware View available for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. Wyse PocketCloud integrates into an already-established VMware View host environment and does not require any special setup or software installed.
Wyse PocketCloud was originally released for the iPhone in August 2009 and has been one of the Top 10 Business Applications on Apple’s App Store.
"Today’s professionals are already on call 24/7, so it’s gratifying to hear from so many Wyse PocketCloud users how their jobs are made easier and more convenient with our app," says to Daniel Barreto, Chief Software Architect at Wyse, in a prepared statement. "Wyse PocketCloud is becoming an essential tool for the modern-day professional. We are now extending the unique capabilities of Wyse PocketCloud in light of the explosive growth in Android-based mobile platforms."
