Data management and data protection solutions specialist Overland Storage announced that as part of its “Double Your Capacity for Free” promotion, the company will offer customers the opportunity to upgrade to an 8TB SnapServer N2000 for free when they purchase a 4TB SnapServer N2000. The company noted the promotion ends on Dec. 23. With a quad-core Intel processor, up to 6 Gb Ethernet ports, and scalable to 144TB, the N2000 is fully compatible with Microsoft Active Directory, the entire set of 30 Windows permission attributes, and VSS/VDS for iSCSI volumes.
The N2000 incorporates a comprehensive set of features including RAID, snapshots, replication, iSCSI, and Instant Capacity Expansion and also has the ability to store block and file data as well as mix high performance SAS and SATA drives. The 2U storage array supports up to 12 SAS or SATA drives and has the ability to replicate to one or multiple SnapServers, take snapshots for point-in-time recovery, and perform backups to disk, VTL, or tape.
The N2000 is also equipped with Overland’s SnapServer Manager, a Java-based utility integrated with GuardianOS that enables businesses to manage all of the SnapServer, Snap SAN, and REO 4600 VTL devices from a single console. Intuitive wizards guide users through installation and the initial creation of storage volumes, with aid from a Web-based management console and a full-featured Command Line Interface (CLI).
The company announced it would also be offering customers 1.2 PB of additional tape storage capacity at no extra charge with the purchase of a NEO 8000e backup and archive solution. This $36,000 value promotion also ends Dec. 23. NEO backup and archive solution features include backup/archiving of up to 3PB of storage capacity, transfer data at speeds of up to 24TB/hr, scalable architecture, enhanced data availability with redundancy features, intelligent remote management and energy and space-saving features.
Other capabilities include upgradable tape drives, mail slot functionality, remote management, robotic redundancy, redundant power, scalability up to 500 cartridges in a single module; scalability up to 2 modules, support for AES-256 bit encryption and partitioning.
In October, the company acquired MaxiScale, a provider of limitlessly scalable file serving and storage. Overland gained MaxiScale’s assets, intellectual property and members of its engineering team. The company’s technology, which is currently being integrated into Overland’s file storage portfolio, provides cloud-scale storage capabilities that reduce capital and operational costs while improving performance.
