Atos: Company Background
Between 1996 and 2002, a handful of mergers and acquisitions led to Atos’s rise as a major European IT provider. Atos Origin was formed in 2000, combining the recently merged Origin BV (BSO and Philips C&P) of the Netherlands and Atos (Axime and Sligan) of France. Shortly after, Atos Origin acquired UK-based KPMG Consulting and the IT services division of Schlumberger.
After acquiring Siemens’ IT subsidiary in 2011, the Paris metro-based vendor shortened its name to just “Atos.” Atos initiatives in recent years have led to the acquisitions of several digital, cloud, security, and decarbonization companies. The company’s almost 40 acquisitions include multiple up-and-coming technologies, managed service providers, and IT channel partners.
Today, the French digital solutions company has 105,000 employees representing 139 nationalities and working in 71 countries. As a Societas Europaea (SE), Atos is a public company under European Union corporate governance. The company boasted annual revenue of €11.2 billion in 2020.
