Here’s a look at the state of spam and the scams that come with it today.

The Spam CountSpam made up 89.34 percent of all email messages sent in March 2010.That’s a slight decrease compared to 89.99 percent in February.

Clogging Your Mail ServerSpam messages between 5k and 10k increased by 10 percentage points, likely as a result of an increase in attachment spam.

Duping Your UsersScam and phishing messages in March 2010 made up 17 percent of all spam.

The Good News PartPhishing attacks went down by 3 percent in March compared to February.The slight dip was due to a decrease in volume of attacks generated by automated toolkits–these attacks went down by 35 percent in the past month.

The Bad News PartAt the same time, though, unique URL and IP attacks increased by 1.5 percent and 4 percent respectively.

Targeting the Big PhishA mass phishing attack on two unnamed but major brands that offer retail electronic payment services for worldwide banks made up a sizeable 4.4 percent of all unique phishing websites in March 2010.
