Crossbeam Security Switch Fills Out Product Line

CONCORD, MA — Crossbeam Systems, expanded its C-Series line of security switches with the Crossbeam C10, a product designed for remote and branch offices. The 1U-high $9,995 switch is designed to deliver 2Gbps of firewall throughput (large packet size), or 150 Mbps of throughput when firewall and IDS are running simultaneously, along with integrated security applications. Remote and branch offices or smaller enterprises can use the C10 as a perimeter security solution to consolidate multiple security functions, such as firewall and IDS, into a single, high performance platform.

Datafaction Former Owner Re-Acquires Company Best Software

Datafaction, a developer of accounting software for CPAs, business managers,

high net-worth planners and production companies, was re-acquired by its former

owner and CEO, Brian Kleinman in a cash purchase transaction with

Best Software. The

price was not disclosed. Datafaction had been a subsidiary of Softline, which

Best purchased in Nov. 2003. Best Software’s portfolio includes Abra, ACCPAC,

CPASoftware, FAS, MAS 90, MIP, Peachtree, Timberline, TimeSlips and SalesLogix,

among many others.

Convergys Provides After-Hours Claims Handling for Insurer

CINCINNATI — Convergys, a provider of integrated billing, employee care, and customer care signed a customer care contract with insurer USAA. Convergys’ customer care agents will handle first-notice-of-loss reports for auto and homeowner claims made after hours and on weekends. Convergys employees will answer these calls in its Jacksonville, Fla. customer service center. In addition, USAA will use Convergys’ point-of-service evaluation (POSE) service to measure and improve customer satisfaction.

Qwest Eliminates Access Charges for VoIP Calls

DENVER — Qwest has eliminated access charges for true Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) traffic terminating on the public switched telephone network (PSTN). The company plans to offer local services to VoIP providers. True VoIP includes only enhanced services and require a broadband connection and IP conversion of the underlying transmission. Separately, Qwest will offer new local services to VoIP providers, allowing the, them to purchase primary rate interface ISDN circuits (ISDN-PRI).
