Vertical Systems Reseller Magazine – commonly known as VSR – this week held its first conference in Philadelphia, and Channel Insider was both a partner and participant. The event drew a small but respectable group of resellers that crossed the spectrum of the channel – the point of sales, mobility and data capture resellers that are core to VSR’s audience and the enterprise and midmarket resellers of software and networking gear that are endemic to the Channel Insider audience.

By every measure, the event was a success. What made it so successful was VSR’s astute decision to focus on business education and optimization (hence the event’s title – Business Optimization Summit), rather than hosting a stream of vendors pitching their programs and wares. Several attendees told me that they appreciated the education format and welcomed further events that featured topics such as relationship building, negotiation techniques and vertical alignment strategies.

Channel Insider helped support the event by simulcasting the opening keynote delivered by Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions on building more efficient and effective solutions-oriented reseller partnerships. Check out the video of this keynote by clicking here.

Channel Insider is partnering with VSR because of the increasing importance of the technologies that its audience represents. Mobility, data capture, point of sales, inventory and supply chain management are quickly migrating and integrating with the conventional IT fabric of network, security, storage and business intelligence software. The attendees were particularly interested in how to build managed service offerings around their existing practices that have traditionally complemented the networking and desktop resellers of the conventional channel.

You can read about some of the events content in the reports filed by Channel Insider’s Jessica Davis. Channel Insider and VSR will have more post-event reports and activities. Channel Insider congratulates VSR on its successful event and looks forward to collaborating on future endeavors.
