Sun Microsystems’ JDS is now preloaded on Microtel Computer Systems hardware and available at Wal-Mart.

“We now have an active relationship with Microtel,” Jonathan Schwartz, executive vice president of Sun’s software group, told reporters at a “software day” at its Menlo Park, Calif., campus last week.

The $300 system, a Microtel SYSWM8001 PC, comes with an Advanced Micro Devices Duron 1.6GHz processor, but it has no floppy drive.

In December, eWeek first reported that Sun was negotiating with major retailers to include its Java Desktop System on consumer PCs and laptops.
