HP’s brass is looking at both internal and external candidates to fill the channel chief position soon to be left vacated by Adrian Jones, as he takes on a new role with the company starting Nov. 1.

Jones, who has served as vice president and general manager of the Solution Partners Organization, Americas since early 2007 when tapped by new HP CEO Mark Hurd, will be taking over the sales organization for HP’s enterprise storage, servers and networking business in Asia-Pacific. He will be based in Singapore initially, according to an HP spokesperson.

The search for Jones’ replacement has commenced, with the goal to fill the channel position “as soon as possible,” the spokesperson said.

Jones’ announcement comes on the heels of HP’s annual partner program revamp. This year, HP’s overhaul features enhancements for Elite partners who work with virtualization and data centers; improved demand generation resources; and special compensation opportunities for partners selling HP ProCurve networking products.

The enhancements become effective Nov. 1 and are intended to boost key focus areas for the computing giant, including networking and virtualization.
