Claraview, the business intelligence consultancy that has provided BI systems to the likes of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Education, is expanding its educational capabilities.

The company announced Jan. 23 the acquisition of HandsOn-BI, which provides BI and data warehousing architecture, planning and design services. The terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Claraview provides both BI software and services. Its software, developed by internal consultants, consists primarily of modules in four areas: retail data warehousing; retail performance management; generative programming for ETL development (with the Claraview integration kit); and unstructured data integration.

On the product side Claraview provides BI search, a content mining platform, and a product called Clarabridge that turns unstructured information into structured data.

The company also provides consulting, training and support services. Hands-On BI will fit into Claraview’s training division, particularly with Claraview’s growing presence in The Data Warehousing Institute Community.

Hands-On BI maintains a repository of TDWI training courses, materials and best practices expertise, officials said.

“I am pleased to be joining such a recognized business intelligence leader as Claraview to put my knowledge and experience to work in new ways,” said Michael Gonzales, HandsOn-BI founder, in a statement.
