As its first order of business at Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, Apple announced the new Mac Pro desktop with the Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5100 processor.

With the announcement of the Mac Pro, Apple has completed its transition to Intel-based Macs.

In addition to the new Dual-Core Intel processors, CEO Steve Jobs and Phil Schiller, the head of worldwide marketing, told the audience that the Mac Pro is twice as fast as the Power Mac G5 Quad.

The Mac Pro has space for four hard disks, and a total of 2TB of storage.

The Mac Pro comes with the Mac OS X 10.4.7 Tiger. The company also announced the features in its new Mac OS Leopard during the WWDC.

The company announced that the Mac Pro will start shipping as of Aug. 7, with the standard configuration that includes two, 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel processors. The price is $2,499.
