Broad-based solutions MSP, efex, has announced an acquisition that achieves several milestones for the company. It has acquired Wyscom, a Canberra-based MSP, meaning that efex has a presence in the government-heavy ACT market for the first time.

It is also the first acquisition that gives the company international reach, as Wyscom has a presence in Aoteraroa New Zealand.

This is the 12th acquisition that efex has made in the past decade, and forms part of an ambitious growth strategy with the company targeting a presence in 50 locations over the next two years.

“The acquisition of Wyscom is a critical step in our expansion strategy. It enhances our capabilities in key verticals and geographies, allowing us to tap into the Canberra market — a crucial hub for government and education services,” Nick Sheehan, CEO of efex, said in a statement.

Wyscom is a relatively modest outfit, with 25 employees and 150 clients across Canberra, Queensland, Victoria, and New Zealand. However, the acquisition brings efex’s total headcount to over 300 people and, critically, deepens the company’s expertise in cybersecurity.

As noted by Channel Insider, gaining access to cyber security skills and solutions has driven many acquisitions within the channel over the past year, and MSPs have used acquisitions to find skills as the talent pool continues through a deep shortage.

As efex highlights, boutique MSPs and those that specialise in servicing clients in the small and mid-market are under just as much pressure to scale into cyber services.

In the statement, Sheehan noted that Wyscom is targeting further acquisitions in Perth and Sydney this year.

Earlier this year, Wyscom acquired SME specialist, Aish IT, based in South Australia.
