Siemens has acquired Precision Innovations and Defacto Technologies to add AI-driven design exploration and workflow automation capabilities across the system-on-a-chip development lifecycle.
The deals expand Siemens’ electronic design automation portfolio with tools intended to help semiconductor teams evaluate chip architectures earlier, automate complex design processes, and reduce time to silicon.
Precision Innovations targets earlier SoC optimization
The Precision Innovations acquisition will help semiconductor teams optimize power, performance, and area earlier in the system-on-chip design process.
The acquisition also complements Siemens’ existing digital design and verification solutions by enabling faster feasibility analysis and more informed downstream decisions.
“With Precision Innovations joining Siemens, we will expand our ability to support customers as they face rapidly increasing SoC complexity and the need to explore new architectures faster and more efficiently,” said Ankur Gupta, executive vice president, IC Portfolio, Siemens EDA, Siemens Digital Industries Software. “Integrating Precision Innovations’ AI-powered early design exploration into our EDA portfolio can significantly accelerate time to silicon and improve power, performance, and area.”
Precision Innovations develops EDA software built on the open-source OpenROAD framework, helping teams evaluate design feasibility, reduce design iterations, and accelerate time-to-market as SoC complexity continues to grow.
“Becoming part of Siemens allows us to scale our technology and bring AI-driven chip planning to a much broader set of semiconductor teams,” said Tom Spyrou, CEO, Precision Innovations. “Together, we can help designers leverage AI to evaluate thousands of design options earlier in the process and focus innovation where it matters most.”
Defacto Technologies expands design automation
Siemens acquisition of Defacto Technologies, a privately held EDA software company active in the register-transfer level (RTL) design field, expands Siemens’ EDA portfolio with capabilities to help customers manage growing SoC complexity through automated SoC design creation, earlier implementation assessment, and integrated verification.
“With Defacto Technologies, we strengthen our ability to help customers automate SoC design creation and establish trusted design flows earlier in the development cycle,” said Gupta. “By extending end-to-end continuity across the SoC design lifecycle, we help semiconductor teams manage complexity, improve productivity, and make informed design decisions earlier, supporting faster innovation and higher-quality outcomes.”
Defacto’s technology complements Siemens’ existing EDA solutions by extending end-to-end continuity across the SoC design lifecycle – from early design creation to downstream implementation, verification, and signoff.
“Joining Siemens represents an important next step for our organization and our customers,” said Chouki Aktouf, CEO, Defacto Technologies. “This next chapter opens significant opportunities for our customers by combining our deep expertise in SoC design automation with the breadth of Siemens’ EDA portfolio. Together, we aim to help engineering teams simplify complex workflows, improve productivity, and accelerate innovation across the semiconductor and electronics landscape.”
What the deals could mean for Siemens partners
The Siemens Technology Partner Program is designed for developers, ISVs, and other technology partners to build integrations with the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio.
The program is designed to serve Build Partners who develop new IP and integrations; Sell Partners that market Siemens solutions; and Service Partners who deliver implementation and support.
Among the benefits and incentives of the program are:
- Up-to-date APIs: Access modern, reliable APIs to build and integrate solutions.
- Developer Portal: Use a comprehensive portal with all necessary resources.
- Co-marketing incentives: Benefit from joint promotions, press releases, and supported campaigns.
- Revenue share and MDF: Potential revenue sharing models and marketing development funds.
- Dedicated support: Receive tailored onboarding, ongoing certification, and technical guidance.
With the acquisitions adding to Siemens’ portfolio, partners within the program could stand to unlock new opportunities in the months ahead.
