Synnex Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) has its first new leader in nearly two decades, with Kee Ong, who has managed local operations since 2006, announcing that he’s been promoted to the company’s global group CEO.

Ong will be replaced by another channel veteran, Arthur Gimisis, who has been with Synnex himself for over 23 years and acted as its sales director for the past decade.

Ong joined Synnex in 1998, taking on the role of head of product management. In his time at Synnex, Ong oversaw the distributor’s transition from having a heavy product focus to being a major player in the cloud space. Notably, the company became a distributor for both Google Workspace and Alibaba Cloud in the region.

Ong was also responsible for transforming the company’s logistic operation, bringing heavy automation into its facilities in Sydney and Melbourne.

He leaves the ANZ operation in a robust stage. Last year the company posted a 3.8% improvement in revenue to $2.9 billion. Rising costs saw profit drop 16.8% but remain positive at $37.3 million.

“With his outstanding leadership abilities, strategic visions, and deep industry knowledge, Gimisis makes the perfect fit to spearhead Synnex ANZ,” a company statement from Synnex noted.

“Synnex has full trust in his capability to guide the company towards new heights of accomplishment, building on the foundation of growth and success established by Ong.

“Synnex ANZ extend its heartfelt gratitude to Kee Ong as he embarks on this new chapter in his career and looks forward to his continued success in his new position at the Group’s headquarters in Taiwan.”
