Word reaches me of some strange goings-on in distribution….
One very well-known distributor it seems is trying to make good use of any empty warehouse space it has available … by distributing jeans. Yes, the denim kind. Not much technology related to that — unless of course it’s the new CEO dress-down Friday uniform and the distributor plans to ship to all VAR CEOs? Along with, of course, a shirt and suit jacket?
We should applaud the distributor for using its initiative to at least make use of its empty space, and no doubt charging the retailers and manufactures for the facility. However, VARs may want to consider the question of exactly how many resources and how much time the distributor is spending on its new denim-centric strategy, away from its reseller-centric strategy.
And there I was thinking that what with Dell backing the channel, and every other vendor clambering over itself to recruit solution providers, the channel was back in fashion. Perhaps someone forgot to tell this distributor.
