HPE is set to dramatically expand its HPE GreenLake offering through the planned acquisition of hybrid cloud management powerhouse Morpheus Data.

HPE’s purchase of Morpheus Data significantly expands its footprint in the intelligent cloud operations market, a sector poised to hit $36 billion by 2027, according to IDC. This acquisition establishes HPE as the first vendor to offer a full stack of hybrid cloud management solutions, covering infrastructure, platform, and application management.

Basically, Morpheus fills a crucial gap in HPE’s cloud management offerings, enabling the company to provide a complete solution that addresses the complex challenges faced by enterprises in managing their hybrid cloud environments.

“With the acquisition of Morpheus Data, we will take the next major leap to make HPE GreenLake cloud the de facto platform for innovating across hybrid IT,” said Fidelma Russo, executive vice president and general manager, hybrid cloud, and CTO at HPE, in a statement.

So, think of Morpheus Data as the red pill of hybrid IT.

The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but HPE plans to ink the deal by its fourth fiscal quarter of 2024.

Taming the complexity of hybrid IT

HPE believes that bringing together hybrid capabilities under one roof is essential as businesses navigate the tangled complexity and increasing diversity of their IT infrastructure.

“The complexity of today’s fragmented IT environments drives up costs and stifles innovation,” said Russo in the press release announcing the acquisition. “Enterprises urgently need a unified platform to simplify IT complexity and accelerate innovation, regardless of whether they use public or private cloud infrastructure. With the acquisition of Morpheus Data, we will take the next major leap to make HPE GreenLake cloud the de facto platform for innovating across hybrid IT.”

Morpheus’s platform automates the entire lifecycle of applications across multiple cloud environments, providing self-service capabilities and integrating with various tools for efficient DevOps workflows. HPE plans to combine Morpheus’s technology with its own GreenLake cloud and private cloud services. The company will also keep Morpheus available as a separate product. Building on the foundation of its 2023 OpsRamp acquisition, GreenLake will now offer advanced automation and orchestration across multiple cloud environments.

This means HPE GreenLake customers can easily manage and deploy workloads on both traditional and modern IT infrastructures, including older systems and newer public cloud platforms.

To top it off, GreenLake will use Morpheus technology to help customers understand and control cloud costs. This financial management tool will prevent overspending and optimize workload performance.

A strong partnership for customer success

The acquisition of Morpheus Data by HPE is the result of a strong, long-term partnership. Both companies have a proven track record of success with customers.

“By joining forces, we can help even more businesses navigate the complexities of managing IT across multiple clouds and vendors,” said Morpheus Data CEO Brian Wheeler. “Together, we’ll empower organizations to thrive and innovate in today’s challenging IT landscape.”

HPE has committed to supporting existing Morpheus Data customers and partnerships.
