Internet
content security specialist Trend Micro announced the release of a hosted
endpoint security solution to support Microsoft Small Business Server 2011
Essentials dashboard add-in functionality with Worry-Free Business Security
Services, a hosted security service for protecting PCs, servers and other
Windows-based devices.

The
platform leverages the cloud to provide central management for the security of
these devices without installing software components that could slow the server
down. Now it includes a server dashboard add-in for the recently launched
Microsoft Small Business Server 2011 Essentials. With this addition, small to
medium-size business (SMB) owners have the ability to be in greater control of
their businesses’ security and can see if it’s at risk and can enforce policies
such as Web usage.

"We
know hosted endpoint security is fast becoming the platform of choice for small
businesses," said Greg Boyle, global product marketing manager at Trend
Micro. "We have been working closely with Microsoft during the development
of SBS 2011 to deliver an update to our service and to ensure that it’s
available in all of our 22 supported languages to make cloud services more
accessible to small businesses worldwide."

Microsoft
Small Business Server 2011 Essentials is designed for businesses with less than
25 employees. It provides simple out-of-the-box functionality for improved data
backup, remote access to company information and improved productivity, and it
is also designed to enable seamless integration to cloud services.

"We
are very excited about Trend Micro’s support for SBS Essentials. Their
Worry-Free Business Security Services solution perfectly marries the server’s
philosophy of an IT infrastructure that offers advanced functionality to our customers
without the cost of high complexity that usually comes with it," said
Enrico Toro, senior marketing manager of Windows Server for Microsoft. “As a
cloud solution that integrates with the server’s dashboard, Trend Micro’s
software does exactly that. It protects their network, giving customers full
control, but it takes away the worry and the time spent on making sure the
software is always well maintained and up to date. Small businesses will be
pleased.”

Boyle
explained rather than deploying management software onto the box and
potentially slowing it down, the full power of the box can be used to grow the
business as it was intended. “Hosted security is perfect for small businesses
buying their first server,” he said. “We expect that the adoption of hosted or
cloud security alongside first servers and in particular Microsoft Small
Business Server 2011 Essentials will significantly add to the 300,000-strong
user base of our hosted endpoint platform."
