Network operator AT&T announced the upcoming availability of five Android smartphones–the Motorola Atrix 2, Samsung Captivate Glide, Samsung DoubleTime, Pantech Pocket and AT&T Avail, a smartphone option for prepaid customers. These handsets increase AT&T s 2011 Android lineup to 19, with more planned. In addition, competitor T-Mobile launched two 4G Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) tablets–the T-Mobile SpringBoard with Google and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The Atrix 2 comes with a 1GHz dual-core processor and access to 4G speeds, as well as a 4.3-inch qHD display. Users can capture video in 1080p HD and display it on any HD monitor with an HDMI cable using Mirror mode. And with Motorola’s Webtop application, users can browse the Web with a full Firefox browser. In addition, the handset can connect to the Motorola Lapdock 100 or through an optional HD Station and access the Web on an HDTV or monitor.  Other features include enhanced Exchange options and personal information management and remote wipe.

The Captivate Glide is a 4G Android smartphone that boasts a thin, side-slide QWERTY keyboard and a 1GHz dual-core processor. Running Android 2.3, the Captivate Glide features access to 4G speeds, a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, an 8-megapixel flash camera with HD (1080p) video recording and a front-facing camera for video chat. For the business professional, the Captivate Glide has enhanced Exchange ActiveSync support for IT policies, task synchronization and global address lookup. Information and network are secured with virtual private network access and device encryption.

The Samsung DoubleTime is ideally suited for texting, multitasking and staying connected to social networks thanks to a dual touch screen and full flip keyboard. Running on Android 2.2, DoubleTime boasts a white and pink color scheme and features a 3.2MP digital camera with a camcorder, voice recognition, a dedicated function key for shortcuts, drag-and-drop widgets, five scrolling home screens and an expandable menu with scrolling panels.

The Pantech Pocket is a slim Android 2.3 device pitched at customers focused on social entertainment and messaging. Features include a 4.0-inch SVGA touch-screen display, a wide profile virtual keyboard, 4G support, a 5MP camera and access to the Android Market.

Lastly, the Avail from ZTE is the second Android smartphone launched by GoPhone, AT&T s prepaid offering. The device features a 3.5-inch touch screen and a 5-megapixel camera and runs on Android 2.3 OS.

The 4G-capable T-Mobile SpringBoard features a 7-inch HD multitouch display, is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core mobile processor, and is equipped with a variety of entertainment applications, an SD card slot that accommodates up to 32GB of expandable memory, support for Adobe Flash Player, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and video recorder with 720p for HD video capture, as well as a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Weighing just 1.2 pounds and featuring a 10.1-inch HD display, the 4G-capable Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is equipped with preinstalled content and applications, including T-Mobile TV, Qello, Samsung Media Hub and Blio eReader, as well as an Nvidia Tegra 2 mobile processor and full Adobe Flash Player support.
