Windows 10 adoption

Windows 10 adoption is accelerating. The new OS represents an opportunity for upgrading hardware and delivering a broad range of new software and services.

The current Windows 10 penetration rate in the business environment stands at 18% after six months of availability.

The Windows 10 penetration rate has increased by 7 percentage points since last October. Windows 10 is the most quickly adopted Windows OS and is well on track to reach 40% by the end of July 2016.

Among the organizations using Windows 10, approximately 40% have three or more Windows 10 devices. This suggests that while some companies are still testing on one or two boxes, many others have started to move past the initial testing phases.

Businesses in North America continue to lead the Windows 10 charge six months in, with an average penetration rate of 19.3%, followed by Europe, the Middle East and Africa (18.1%), Latin America at (16.1%) and the Asia-Pacific region (14.4%).

Windows 10 devices are present in more midsize and large businesses than in smaller companies. For example, the penetration rate among companies with more than 500 people (31%) is three times as high as the rate at companies with 50 or fewer employees (10%).

The software industry is way ahead of the curve with a penetration rate of 28.2%, about 10 percentage points higher than the baseline of 18% that includes all industries. The manufacturing and energy industries were not far behind, with penetration rates of 23% and 21%, respectively.

A full 64% of survey respondents said that they were more likely to adopt Windows 10 because of the free upgrade offer.

It took approximately one year for Windows 7 to pass the 200 million device usage mark. Windows 10 accomplished the same feat in approximately half the time of Windows 7.

The Spiceworks data shows that the Windows 8 penetration rate in businesses was only 9.3% six months after its launch. In contrast, Windows 10 penetration reached a rate nearly twice as high (18%) within the same time period.
