NEC Corp. of America
is stepping up its unified communications game with enhanced integrations for
its Univerge Sphericall software-based unified communications solution,
including Polycom HDX HD video conferencing products and its own UC for business
contact center agent.
Univerge Sphericall 6.4 is a software-based UC solution that can be installed
on standard servers and is shipping now. Because it’s software-based, the
product can help with virtualization and server consolidation efforts in the
data center, according to Steve Hilton, principal analyst with Analysys Mason.
"The flexibility of running voice as an application on
the IT network and enabling a variety of communications options—such as the new
video, wireless and contact center agent features added to NEC’s Univerge
Sphericall product—ultimately gives end users the choices and productivity
enhancements they want, and the simplicity of administration that IT managers
want," he said in a prepared statement.
Sphericall’s integration with NEC’s UC for Business adds new functionality to
the UCB contact center solution, including intelligent call management,
skills-based routing, agent management, multimedia capability through e-mail
queuing and Web-chat integration to other CMR applications.
In addition, Sphericall now supports Polycom HDX video conferencing products,
letting users participate in conferences via their Sphericall Desktop
application. That means they can see video endpoints just as they see other
endpoints and can use click-to-dial with video.
