Word reaches our shell-like ear here at Channel Insider that Sun Microsystems in the United Kingdom has a novel way of helping its employees to get to know each other. Gone are the days of raft building and kick-off weekends, instead Sun’s U.K. work force is attempting to, ahem, rock the nation.

Sun has enlisted the help of Corporate Music Development – a company that specializes in team building activities around music. The notion is that when the employees start their activity day they have a limited amount of time, four instruments – guitar, keyboards, drums and mikes – to set up and perform a rock song.

According to a quote on the CMD Web site, the head of Sun’s HR gushes that “it’s the best team event” she has ever done.

And Sun is by no means the only tech corporate to be attempting to become the next Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd, Oracle has also been jumping on the bandwagon, so to speak. One exec at the database giant said he definitely thinks it has helped him look at himself and become a better manager. Rock on.

Move over Bruce Springsteen and Keith Moon, the tech rockers are coming through.
