The data discovery and data masking company Dataguise is heating up its federal focus with an announcement this week of a new vice president of federal sales that the company hopes will improve its position within the government sector.

With more than 30 years of IT sales and senior management experience, Joe Marino has spent half of his career targeting the federal government market. He comes to Dataguise by way of Vignette, where he also led federal sales. His strong track record includes the procurement last year of the largest single license sale in the federal government.

In his new post at Dataguise, Marino will help expand the company’s sales force and senior technical staff nationwide, with particular emphasis on a dedicated team in the Washington, D.C. area.

“We at Dataguise view the federal sector as a fundamental component of our company strategy and look forward to leveraging Joe’s knowledge of the space to secure our position as the leading provider of best-of-breed database security solutions for governmental organizations, ” said Allan Thompson, EVP of Operations at Dataguise.

Based on his extensive experience, Marino believes his new company is well-positioned to help the government sector.

“Maintaining data security is an ongoing challenge for organizations, and is of critical importance to government agencies,” Marino said. “I look forward to being part of the Dataguise team, and leveraging its arsenal of best-in-breed database solutions to arm federal agencies with the tools needed to secure data and prevent highly-sensitive information from exposure.”

As a part of its federal efforts, Dataguise is already starting to engage government channel players more aggressively. The company also announced this week a partnership with immixGroup, a Maclean, Va.-based firm focused squarely on the government market.
