Dell’s MSP partners will soon have a new service to offer to customers, and to compete with Dell on. The company announced April 24 that it has closed on its MessageOne acquisition. The deal provides Dell with managed services technology for e-mail management, archiving and business continuity.

The company is adding these functions to its portfolio of services, all acquired, that it plans to offer both directly to end customers and through its channel partners. Acquisitions in the space have included Everdream, Silverback and ASAP Software.

In its statement announcing the completion of the $155 million acquisition, Dell said: “Dell is architecting an integrated service delivery platform of SaaS applications that will enable it to remotely monitor, maintain, troubleshoot and address the majority of routine IT infrastructure issues that challenge businesses of all sizes. The company anticipates that services such as patch management, anti-virus, online backup and recovery, asset tracking, software license management and e-mail continuity delivered and managed over the Internet will reduce the cost of infrastructure management and free budget for the IT driven innovation that grows business.”

The statement further quotes the company’s president of Dell Global Services, Steve Schuckenbrock, as saying that companies currently spend 70 percent of their IT budgets on maintaining their existing IT infrastructures and dealing with routine issues. He says in the statement that Dell is looking to change that by “building a services supply chain” that will give companies flexibility on the services they buy.
