Tech Data is beefing up its product line to support the growing market for digital signage.

The Clearwater, Fla.-based distributor said its Pro A/V division’s product portfolio will now include displays, mounting hardware and content-development software from companies such as Chief, OmniMount, Sanus Systems, Sony Media and Syntax Brillian.

Digital signage is growing in popularity, with displays showing up in waiting rooms at medical offices and car dealerships, to name just a few locations.

“While large plasma and sleek LCD displays immediately come to mind when we think of digital signage, they are only part of a complex IT solution,” said Wendy Linsky, Tech Data vice president, for peripherals product marketing, in a statement. For example, such displays often put additional stress on a customer’s networking infrastructure, opening up the opportunity for additional sales into the account.

Linsky’s group will merge with Tech Data’s Pro A/V division in February.

“Aligning the [special business unit] with our peripherals teams enables us to better support resellers by developing business-building channel programs with a broader array of manufacturers targeting the professional A/V market,” she said.
