PC notebook shipment growth slackened off a bit in September, according to a new report by FBR Research based on the firm’s supply chain checks.

The company said that the leading notebook makers reported September notebook shipments sprang back from a very weak August, but showed sequential monthly growth of 22.5 percent – softer than the 25 percent sequential monthly growth they had originally expected, according to FBR Research.

For the third quarter notebook shipments grew just under 25 percent sequentially and 36 percent year over year, the firm reported. FBR Research contacts reported shipments to be healthy for HP and Acer and weaker for Dell, Toshiba and Lenovo.

FBR said PC notebook makers expect fourth quarter notebook shipment growth to be 12 percent sequentially and 33 percent year over year.

Motherboard growth was also reported weaker, with shipments up only 4 percent since August compared with their original expectation of 10 percent growth.  For the quarter, FBR said it believes motherboard shipments grew 7 percent sequentially and fell 4 percent year over year.
