Multi-cloud storage management company Lucidity recently announced the public availability of Lumen, an engine for visibility, recommendations, and actions that enables the management of cloud storage.

Lumen solution targets cloud management and storage costs

This solution delivers seamless disk tiering management to Lucidity customers, enabling them to optimize application performance and reduce cloud storage costs through data-driven decisions for disk tiering, resulting in increased speed.

Raj Dutt, VP and head of marketing at Lucidity, told Channel Insider that the product aims to address overprovisioning, which is a common issue in the market.

“The idea is to help bring visibility into your entire storage estate,” said Dutt. “We’re going to start with block storage, but there are plans to expand into other storage types as well.”

Among the key capabilities and benefits of the new Lumen solution are:

  • Understanding the state of cloud storage across your environment through insights into key cross-environment storage metrics such as current disk tiering, usage patterns, and potential cost savings and performance improvements in one unified dashboard.
  • New ways to reduce cloud spend with data-driven disk tiering recommendations backed by a multidimensional cost and performance analysis. This enables users to compare IOPS, throughput, latency, and cost between their current tier and the tier recommended by Lucidity.
  • Painless disk tier conversions by avoiding downtime and complex tiering change processes with single-click disk tier conversions. Lucidity can perform seamless disk tier conversions for the disks you choose with no impact on uptime.
  • Uplevel user performance through clear recommendations and insights into disks that are bottlenecked at their current tier for single-click optimized performance.

“The three key elements of Lumen are visibility, recommendation, and one-click action,” Dutt explained. “The byproduct of that is you reduce your waste, improve your performance, and improve your uptime.”

Lumen is generally available as of June 3, 2025.

Looking at Lucidity’s market position and potential

Founded in 2021, Lucidity is a relatively young company in the channel space. The organization specializes in cloud storage management that is compatible with AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.

The Lucidity platform automates block storage optimization, cutting costs by up to 70 percent, preventing downtime, and saving hours of manual effort.

Lucidity has offices in the U.S., the Middle East, and Bangalore, with a primary focus on selling its products in North America and Western Europe. A recent Series A funding round of $31 million has helped the company implement its growth and innovation strategy.

The channel-focused company also offers a non-disruptive auto-scaling tool called Auto Scaler. This tool helps large enterprises optimize cloud storage costs and performance. It has also achieved up to 4 times disk utilization, saving customers money.

“Cloud storage deserves the same level of automation and cost optimization that cloud compute has gotten,” said Nitin Bhadauria, a Lucidity co-founder. “Getting the most out of your cloud storage is complex– leading to a reality of overprovisioned capacity, premium-by-default disk tiers, and idle and orphaned disks, just to name a few. We’ve solved the problem of overprovisioning with AutoScaler, and we’re excited to simplify never-before-touched areas of cloud storage management with Lumen, starting with disk tiering optimization. The ability to get actionable recommendations for matching the right disk tier to your application needs, and convert disk tiering up or down with one click and no downtime is a real game changer.”

According to Dutt, customers have already seen significant benefits from utilizing Lucidity, including one U.S. airline increasing its disk utilization from 21 percent to 82 percent while saving costs and freeing up IT resources.

Another customer successfully automated 51,000 tasks during tax season, saving over $400,000. The company’s agnostic approach to cloud providers and applications makes it a versatile solution for various use cases.

“On the channel side, we are the only ones operating in all three [major] cloud providers,” adds Dutt. “Customers can deploy it in AWS, Azure, and [Google Cloud]. They’re application agnostic. Doesn’t matter what application or what operating system you’re running because we don’t sit in the data path.”
Rising cloud costs have been a growing concern for the channel in recent years. Read more about how one organization is using its resources to scale AI-driven cloud cost optimization.
