Enterprise storage service provide Zetta, which provides on-demand network attached storage (NAS) as a service, is opening a new data service facility in the New York City metropolitan area, the company has announced.

The new data center storage facility will be the third for the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company, which already operates two facilities on the West Coast. Zetta is partnering with Equinix as a collocation provider for the new facility.

"At least 20 percent of our current customers and a larger percentage of our prospects are on the East Coast, so the new service facility makes a lot of sense for them and us," said Jeff Treuhaft, CEO of Zetta, in a statement. "It allows us to directly serve a large and expanding northeast U.S. market and provides greater geographic separation for our existing customers’ replication plans."

Zetta is also in the process of recruiting channel partners – value-added resellers (VARs) and managed service providers (MSPs) – who are looking to “embrace a services-oriented model,” the company says on its web site. “For existing MSPs and agencies incorporating an annuity-based revenue model, this presents an exciting opportunity to add enterprise-grade cloud-based storage to your portfolios.”

Zetta was founded in 2007 by companies such as Netscape, VeriSign, Symantec, EqualLogic, and Shutterfly. The company has raised $11 million in venture capital funds and investors include Sigma Partners and Foundation Capital.
