Cyberoam will integrate Commtouch’s anti-spam technology into its identity-based unified threat management product, further fortifying the spam detection the product offers, the company announced March 5.

Commtouch protects against image spam, according to David Glenn, director of North American channel sales for Cyberoam. The company estimates that image spam accounts for 30 percent of all spam and 70 percent of bandwidth that all spam uses—a significant hit for customers.

“This is a door opener for new accounts,” Glenn said. “Traditional solutions that are out there don’t protect against image spam. This gives our partners a more unique message to go in to tell the customer base, and should allow them to be able to establish a foothold with new prospects.”

Cyberoam is integrating Commtouch’s technology through an OEM agreement. Existing customers can be upgraded, and a new version of the Cyberoam product that includes the Commtouch technology will be released this month.

Commtouch offers real-time detection and blocking capability, protecting against spam and malware.

“Because most attacks last only a few hours and involve the release of tens of millions of e-mails containing malicious content or spam, the ability to detect malicious activity in real time is vital to combating threats,” Cyberoam said in a statement.

The deal calls for Cyberoam to leverage Commtouch RPD’s Real-Time Detection Center, which analyzes Internet traffic in real time and identifies new threats.

Cyberoam is a division of Elitecore Technologies, based in Ahmedabad, India. The company launched a U.S. channel program at the RSA Conference in San Francisco last month, promising 100 percent indirect sales. The company claims to have more than 200 partners worldwide.
