Cloud storage provider Backblaze recently announced B2 Overdrive, a high-performance cloud storage solution delivering terabit-speed throughput starting at $15 per terabyte. Built for organizations seeking to optimize data throughput performance, it is designed to eliminate the compromise between performance and economics that have constrained data-intensive workloads.

The B2 Overdrive builds on Backblaze’s cloud storage infrastructure with expanded networking and storage capabilities that enable sustained throughput up to a terabit per second. Features include the following:

  • Terabit speed at exabyte scale: Up to a terabit per second throughput enabling rapid processing of exabyte-scale datasets without complex architectures.
  • Free egress: The ability to move data freely to any GPU cloud or high-performance compute cluster with unlimited free egress.
  • Private networking support: Transfer data at maximum speed through secure private networking connections for an organization’s infrastructure.

“Today’s AI, machine learning, and high-performance compute workloads demand both lightning-fast access to massive datasets and predictable economics that don’t penalize success,” Backblaze CEO Gleb Budman said. “With B2 Overdrive, we’re challenging the industry’s assumption that organizations must pay colossal prices for colossal performance. We’ve engineered a solution that delivers the sustained high-throughput organizations need, without the egress fees and complex pricing tiers that are pervasive of legacy providers.”

Backblaze B2 Overdrive is designed for a range of throughput-intensive use cases, including AI/ML training and inference, high-performance compute, large-scale data analytics, media processing pipelines, research compute, and content delivery. The solution is generally available for sales-assisted organizations with multi-petabyte workloads.

Backblaze cloud storage expansion

Backblaze has continued to be on a mission for delivering cloud storage solutions to more organizations by deploying its services at Cologix’s TOR3 digital edge data center in Toronto earlier this year. The partnership means bringing about data storage solutions compliant with Canadian regulations.

“Partnering with Cologix enables us to directly address the growing need for in-country data storage in Canada,” said Chris Opat, Sr. VP, Cloud Operations of Backblaze. “TOR3’s robust infrastructure and connectivity, combined with our cost-effective storage solutions, empowers international businesses to maintain data sovereignty without compromising performance or affordability.”

The collaboration on the deployment features “a high-capacity setup with dedicated power and a direct fiber connection to Cologix’s TOR1 digital edge data center, Canada’s largest carrier hotel.”
