1Autotask

Ever since it first started sniffing around the remote monitoring and management (RMM) market , Spiceworks has been siphoning SMB prospects and customers away from Autotask. Now with its Request for Quote service, Spiceworks is at it again, competing with Autotask’s VARStreet program.

2IT Toolbox

In the process of supporting its IT administrator users, Spiceworks started building out a community of tech pros and a custom social media platform purpose built to get them sharing best practices and scuttlebutt. In the process the company has certainly tread on the toes of IT Toolbox, which has spent years building out its own IT community site.

3Track-IT

Spiceworks has been stealing Track-IT users for years now. Spiceworks always has the upper hand with the free price tag, though Track-IT has convinced many to stick with them for the more robust software licensing purchasing and assignment tracking, plus better device grouping.

4Citrix

Citrix GoToManage Monitoring fights with Spiceworks for a piece of the RMM market and its purchase of Paglo last year shows that the company’s willing to go to the mat for customers. Interestingly, Citrix hawks the product on Spiceworks with its own vendor sponsored page there.

5CNet

Spiceworks is sending a shot over CNet’s bow, competing with CNet’s Channel Online through the Spiceworks Request for Quote (RFQ), a service will offer small businesses the ability to anonymously ask for and receive bids from technology vendors or resellers on purchase requests.

6PacketTrap

Spiceworks caters to a respectable chunk of the managed service provider community looking for cheap tools to administer SMB customer accounts. But PacketTrap aims squarely at MSPs with more robust functionality made for them and a price tag that isn’t free but also doesn’t break the bank.

7SolarWinds

Spiceworks isn’t the only free gig in town when it comes to monitoring and management tools. Solarwinds offers a range of free tools for download, including a SAN monitor, VM monitor, netflow analyzer and an application monitor.
