Google Apps Reseller Focused on Cloud

Jim McNelis, co-founder of Dito, a Google Apps reseller and a vendor in the Google Apps Marketplace (selling the Dito Directory contact manager), recently described his conversion to go all in with Google in the blog, including his experience as an early adopter of Gmail, and then starting up Dito in 2007 with the goal of helping small and midsized business customers make the transition to the cloud.
He introduces the thought by talking about how companies all used to generate their own electricity before the invention of the electrical grid. But then when the grid came on, it made more sense to outsource that. He writes:
"Well, my friends, the cloud is the electrical grid and your in-house server is your power plant.
"The cloud has become a viable alternative to expensive, on-site hardware that needs constant tender love and care to stay current. Stop staffing IT to keep your systems from breaking. Instead, enable your IT staff to work on new and innovative initiatives that will drive your business forward by freeing them from the chains of the on-site server."
As so many IT executives seem to be telling pollsters that their IT budgets for 2010 will be focused on making IT more strategic, maybe this approach makes sense.
What about you? Are you considering the cloud?
