James Rocker, founder and CEO of Long Island, NY-Based managed service provider Nerds That Care, says he still hears from marketing experts fascinated by his company’s name even after being in operation for 20 years. On this latest episode of Channel Insider: Partner POV, Rocker explains how he drew inspiration from the name and brand marketing of a well known B2C break/fix team from a big box tech store. He says once he bought the website domain, everything fell into place for his business. For him, the name says it all – “We’re nerds, and we care!” Rocker explains to host Katie Bavoso how he got into technology and managed services and what drove him to start his own business. In today’s fast paced world of technology, Rocker says customers have so many devices and applications and face increasing risks that it’s intimidating for them to keep up simply because they’re overwhelmed. It’s important for Rocker to lead with education and patience, especially when it comes to the explosion of AI tools. However, he stresses if business aren’t trying to leverage AI now, they’re already behind. Rocker also dives into his MSP’s successful partnership with Ingram Micro and expresses his support for the distributor’s decision to stop doing business with Broadcom in 2025. Plus, hear why Rocker plans to take Nerds That Care public by 2030 and why he wants to be held accountable for the lofty goal.
