Provider of critical infrastructure protection, OPSWAT, has teamed with NetApp to help mitigate file-borne threats at the storage layer.

Integration unifies file security and storage platforms to enhance security

OPSWAT will integrate its MetaDefender Storage Security with NetApp ONTAP. The combined solution will integrate OPSWAT’s advanced file security tools with NetApp’s storage platforms to help organizations detect and prevent hidden malware, macro threats, sensitive data leakage, and file-borne vulnerabilities before they reach critical applications or users.

The solution will also work without disrupting existing workflows, delivering advanced file security into on-premises, cloud, and hybrid storage environments.

OPSWAT’s integration with NetApp ONTAP will provide multi-layered security capabilities such as:

  • OPSWAT Metascan Multiscanning
  • Deep CDR (content disarm and reconstruction)
  • Proactive DLP (data loss prevention)
  • Vulnerability assessment
  • Adaptive sandbox technologies

“Organizations worldwide move massive volumes of files through the NetApp data platform and our storage systems daily,” said Spencer Sells, vice president of global alliances at NetApp. “By adding additional virus scanning capabilities from our partner ecosystem that enforce our position as the most secure storage on the planet, this new solution gives customers more choices in tools to stop file-borne threats before they spread, reduce compliance exposure, and keep critical operations running even as risks evolve.”

Along with the integration of NetApp ONTAP on-prem and in the cloud, MetaDefender Storage Security will support Server Message Block (SMB), Network File System (NFS), and Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). This will make it easier to integrate with existing infrastructure and adapt to wider deployment requirements.

“Customers want file security that doesn’t slow down business,” said George Prichici, vice president of products at OPSWAT. “With OPSWAT MetaDefender Storage Security integrated into NetApp ONTAP for on-prem and cloud deployments, we help customers stop file-based threats at the storage layer and demonstrate controls for audits without changing workflows.”

NetApp INSIGHT 2025 highlights

The news of this collaboration comes from NetApp’s customer event for data infrastructure, INSIGHT 2025.

In anticipation of INSIGHT 2025, NetApp has also prepared to make a series of other announcements, including establishing a partnership with Intel for AI deployment.

NetApp and Intel will be deploying NetApp AIPod Mini, a solution designed to streamline enterprise adoption of AI inferencing.

“Our mission is to unlock AI for every team at every level without the traditional barriers of complexity or cost,” said Dallas Olson, chief commercial officer at NetApp. “NetApp AIPod Mini with Intel gives our customers a solution that not only transforms how teams can use AI, but also makes it easy to customize, deploy, and maintain. We are turning proprietary enterprise data into powerful business outcomes.”

The new solution will streamline deployment and use of AI for specific applications, including automating aspects of document drafting and research for legal teams, personalized shopping experiences and dynamic pricing for retail teams, and predictive maintenance and supply chains for manufacturing units.

Not long ago, OPSWAT debuted the MetaDefender Drive with Smart Touch to protect critical networks from transient threats. Read more about this new portable cybersecurity device and how it enables security teams to defend against cyberattacks.
