Flashpoint on Wednesday announced the launch of its Threat Intelligence Capability Assessment, a free, interactive tool designed to help organizations evaluate how effectively their threat intelligence programs support operational and strategic decision-making.

The company said the assessment is intended to give security leaders and intelligence teams a clearer understanding of how intelligence flows across their organizations, where gaps exist, and what practical steps can be taken to improve outcomes.

Moving beyond traditional maturity models

According to Flashpoint, many existing assessments emphasize whether organizations have the “right” platforms or the “right” team size, rather than whether intelligence is used effectively.

The new assessment aims to shift the focus to how intelligence actually supports threat detection, prioritization, and response.

The tool examines whether intelligence functions are reactive or purpose-driven, siloed or coordinated, and whether insights are merely informative or operationalized across teams.

“As cyber threats grow in scale, complexity, and impact, organizations need a clear understanding of how effectively intelligence supports their ability to detect high-priority risks and respond with speed,” Flashpoint CEO Josh Lefkowitz said in a statement.

“This assessment helps teams move beyond a score to understand what’s holding them back, where to focus next, and how to turn intelligence into action,” he continued.

Information released by Flashpoint claims the assessment takes less than five minutes to complete. The company is offering the tool at no cost.

From assessment results to action

After completing the assessment, organizations are mapped to one of four capability stages:

  • Developing
  • Maturing
  • Advanced
  • Leader

These stages are intended to reflect how intelligence currently operates across the environment, rather than serving as static labels.

Flashpoint said the results go beyond classification and include a personalized results package designed to help teams translate insight into action.

Deliverables include:

  • An overview of constraints limiting intelligence impact
  • Strategic priorities aligned to the organization’s current stage
  • Immediate actions teams can take
  • 90-day planning worksheet to guide execution

The company emphasized that intelligence maturity is rarely uniform across an enterprise.

As a result, guidance can be applied by function, such as cyber threat intelligence, vulnerability intelligence, fraud, or physical security, rather than relying on a single organization-wide rating.

Target audience and use cases

Flashpoint said the assessment is designed for security leaders, threat intelligence practitioners, risk managers, and other decision-makers seeking to benchmark and strengthen intelligence-driven risk mitigation.

By identifying gaps in visibility, workflow integration, and operational alignment, the company said the tool helps organizations understand where intelligence programs are falling short and what steps are needed to mature them.

The assessment also serves as an entry point into Flashpoint’s broader portfolio, which includes primary-source threat data, expert-led analysis, and intelligence across cyber, vulnerability, geopolitical, fraud, and physical security domains.

Flashpoint said the new tool reflects growing demand from organizations seeking measurable ways to improve how intelligence supports real-world security decisions, rather than simply expanding data volumes or tooling.

The Threat Intelligence Capability Assessment is now available at no cost on Flashpoint’s website.
