Secure endpoint OS platform and 100 percent channel organization, IGEL, recently launched IGEL Business Continuity Dual Boot, a new enterprise offering to boost defense against ransomware and other potentially costly compromises.

Emergency backup OS now available to keep organizations running smoothly

The Dual Boot works as an emergency backup operating system. Organizations can continue to use Windows, but when a compromise occurs, they can jump from Windows to IGEL OS in minutes. This will enable them to securely connect to online services, such as Office 365, Teams, Zoom, and other business services, without interruption.

“Ransomware is surging at an unprecedented level– disrupting operations, undermining productivity, and leading to financial loss,” said Klaus Oestermann, CEO at IGEL. “Now, with IGEL Business Continuity Dual Boot, organizations can rapidly regain control of compromised endpoints when disruptive events occur to keep operations moving and minimize the cost and frustration of outages.”

Among the benefits of this new offering are:

  • Rapid recovery: Compromised Windows endpoints can clean boot to IGEL OS within minutes.
  • Business continuity: Employees can continue to work securely while the enterprise troubleshoots.
  • Disaster resilience: In the event of a compromise, employees can port over to safety.

Ostermann tells Channel Insider how the product addresses customer needs

“We’ve actually been working on this for quite a while and it’s become very apparent that with all the ransomware attacks going on, that customers– in particular critical industries like healthcare, government, and financial services, as well as airlines and transportation in general– are getting more and more concerned about all the ransomware attacks,” Oestermann said in a conversation with Channel Insider. “Many organizations don’t have proper ways of recovering from a ransomware attack, so there’s basically a massive need in the market for a solution for fast recovery. And that’s basically what we’ve created for the market.”

Oestermann said that the product is the result of having in-depth conversations with customers to understand the business needs of their respective industries. More and more organizations – particularly after the CrowdStrike outage – have begun taking ransomware attacks very seriously. Of course, the outage itself was not caused by ransomware or any threat actor, but the downtime still caused many to reassess their operations.

How channel partners can leverage IGel to keep customers running in the event of an issue

The new Dual Boot solution helps organizations prepare for potential scenarios, whether it’s a ransomware attack or a software outage.

“You’ll be back up and running in minutes with our solution,” Oestermann said. “It’s a non-intrusive solution, so you can run it next to Windows. And then if you experience an outage or ransomware attack, you simply reboot and hold down the F9 key, and then you boot to IGEL.”

The permanent, non-intrusive setup enables concrete plans for what to do when you get attacked and how to recover.

The Dual Boot solution provides organizations with a 45-day license to operate in the IGEL OS environment, which can be extended to a more prolonged period or become permanent.

“This is a game-changing technology that’s coming to market,” said Oestermann. “If [channel partners] are not working with IGEL, this might be a very, very interesting technology for them to pick up.”
