Iomega on Jan. 23 launched 1TB and 2TB versions of its newest storage platform designed for small and midsize businesses, the StorCenter Pro NAS 150d Server.

The StorCenter Pro NAS 150d Server features a backup location for computers that are on a company’s network, and also provides business users with secure space for important business documents, photos, music and multimedia files, and other data, company officials said.

“The market for network-attached storage devices for SMBs and home offices is increasing as data storage needs to continue to grow,” Tom Kampfer, president and COO of Iomega, told eWEEK.

Both 150d models can be set up for RAID 0, which provides data stripping; RAID 1, which provides disk mirroring; or RAID 5, which protects data even if the drive experiences failure.

The NAS 150d Server 1TB model provides users with four hot-swappable SATA (serial ATA) II 250GB hard drives while the 2TB model is based on four hot-swappable SATA II 500GB drives, allowing users to remove one of the four hard drives from the 150d while the server is running.

Once the hard drive is removed, the user can then replace the drive inserted, which will allow the 150d to restructure the current RAID 0, 1, and 5, that run on the supported operating systems.

“A business person can’t afford to take their network storage device off the system—but with the 150d, a drive can be removed and another inserted and the unit will rebuild the RAID array without any down time,” Kampfer said.

The newest storage platform from Iomega supports businesses that use Microsoft Windows operating systems as well as Mac OS X 10.27 or higher and Linux distributions such as Red Hat 9, Mandrake 10, Debian 3.0, Gentoo and Fedora Core 3.

The Iomega StorCenter Pro NAS 150d is available today from VARS, resellers, distributors, online and retail. The 1TB model is available for $799 while the 2TB model is available for $1,499.
