Federal spending on information technology is expected to reach $59.7 billion this year, according to IT analysts at Gartner Inc., based in Stamford, Ct.

With an eye on grabbing a substantial portion of that pie, Verio, a leader in global IP solutions, today announced a new vertically–focused channel initiative aimed at recruiting and supporting partners that provide hosting services to the federal government and its various agencies.

The new viaVerio Enterprise Hosting and Network Services Government Partner Program is part of Verio’s larger viaVerio channel program, serving partners in the mid-to-large enterprise space.

In announcing the new program, company officials noted many federal agencies are now required to upgrade to the new Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) which Verio has already implemented for “large-scale commercial next-generation services.” The new program is designed to help solution providers and resellers target and serve federal agencies that are required to make the upgrade.

What the new program offers

“The development of this new program – one of the first of its kind in the hosting space – was a logical next step for Verio,” said Craig Schlagbaum, vice president of Verio’s enterprise hosting and access channel sales. “We’ve always said that our channel strategy is our business strategy and we want to build on the success of that strategy by targeting the government sector.”

Peter Spewak, senior vice president of Business Development at ATS, a Verio partner based in McLean, Va., said his company partnered with Verio because it offers the high level of hosting and IP solutions that government customers demand.

Specific benefits of the viaVerio Enterprise Hosting and Network Services Government Partner Program include:

  • Large reseller discounts on Verio services.
  • Support for adding Verio services to the partners’ existing government contracts.
  • Access to Verio’s Direct Sales force and system engineers when targeting new customers.
  • Market development funds.
  • Pre- and post-sale and special operations support from the viaVerio Enterprise Hosting and Network Services channel team.

Participating partners will be chosen based on a combination of strategic and tactical criteria, including: prior sales of hosting and other Verio services, such as IP access or managed security; positioning with target government agencies and customers; and expansion plans for serving other government markets such as the public sector at the state and local level.
