AI security firm Cyera has acquired Trail Security for $162 million, marking a significant milestone for the three-year-old cybersecurity unicorn now valued at $1.4 billion. The acquisition brings together Trail’s advanced data loss prevention technology with Cyera’s existing security platform.

By merging these capabilities, Cyera has created the industry’s first Unified Data Security Platform, combining their AI-powered Data Security Posture Management system with Trail’s specialized DLP solutions. The move positions Cyera to make waves in the DLP market, which is set to grow from $2 billion today to $21 billion by 2034.

Yotam Segev, CEO and co-founder of Cyera, says that the acquisition is a pivotal step in Cyera’s journey to reshape the future of data security.

“Cyera is determined to consolidate the siloed data security space and enable enterprises to navigate the growing data security challenges around AI and cloud,” said Segev. “The addition of Trail is a huge leap forward in making this a reality for our customers, disrupting the entire data security space. Natively coupling DSPM with DLP gives every customer the crucial opportunity to build successful data security.”

Expanding Cyera’s data security offerings

The Trail acquisition is meant to bolster Cyera’s position in terms of data security, with its sights set on expanding its AI-powered platform beyond its DSPM foundations. Cyera has steadily broadened its security offerings, adding identity protection, data breach preparedness, and now comprehensive DLP capabilities. This integration creates a new approach to data security that prioritizes protecting the data itself rather than just the systems around it.

Trail brings with it fairly substantial backing, having raised over $35 million from prominent venture capital firms including Lightspeed Ventures, CRV, and Cyberstarts. The decision to join Cyera reflects both companies’ vision to deliver innovative security solutions through a single unified platform.

A growth catalyst for Cyera

As part of the acquisition, Cyera welcomes 40 highly skilled Trail employees who will form the core of its new DLP division. This addition marks the beginning of an ambitious growth phase for Cyera, which plans to expand its workforce to more than 1,000 employees over the next two years.

“Joining Cyera marks an exciting new chapter for Trail,” said Zohar Vittenberg, CEO & co-founder of Trail. “We’ve always aimed to push the limits of data loss prevention with AI. In Cyera, we’ve found a partner that shares our vision. Together, by combining our DLP with their leading DSPM platform, we’re delivering a solution that both identifies and protects against data risks in real-time, setting a new standard for data security in an AI-driven world.”

This acquisition is one of two big ones this week that underscore the consolidation taking place in the cybersecurity market, especially in the high-demand area of data security posture management. Netskope also acquired Dasera, a DSPM vendor, on Tuesday. This acquisition will enhance the data protection capabilities of Netskope One, Netskope’s leading SASE platform.
