Global technology solutions company Radix and global chemical and specialty material company, Celanese, have announced a collaboration with Cognite, a provider of data and AI technology for specialized industry use cases. The three companies have created JO.AI, a generative AI-powered solution aimed at improving operations in asset-intensive industries.

New solution promises gains in efficiency and productivity

JO.AI is a solution meant to change how industrial manufacturers leverage data for enhanced productivity and operational excellence at scale. It was developed at Celanese by Radix through their engineering intelligence expertise, while utilizing Cognite’s Data Fusion, a DataOps and AI platform for enterprise-scale, complex industrial data management projects, to power the solution.

“AI has proven to be a valuable business catalyst in today’s dynamic manufacturing landscape, offering unparalleled opportunities for optimization and innovation,” said Sameer Purao, Senior Vice President and CIO at Celanese. “We developed JO.AI – in collaboration with Radix, on top of the robust data foundation provided by Cognite Data Fusion – to harness the power of AI to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and elevate overall productivity. Additionally, AI enables smart production through real-time data analysis, facilitating data-driven decisions, process optimization, and swift response to market demand. Incorporating AI into our manufacturing operations is not just a technological advancement, but also a competitive advantage.”

JO.AI addresses problems for industrial manufacturers, including their struggle to unlock the full potential of their data. JO.AI acts as an advanced Industrial Copilot, enabling intuitive, natural language interaction with the Industrial Knowledge Graph provided by Cognite Data Fusion to more easily access complex data and use that data for actionable intelligence tailored specifically for the process industry. Additionally, by leveraging Cognite Data Fusion’s data management and comprehensive AI to enable the GenAI application to carry out complex operations with great accuracy.

“The development of JO.AI is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation,” added Justin Conroy, Vice President, Digital Product Portfolio at Radix. “We’ve worked closely with Celanese to ensure that JO.AI meets the specific needs of industrial operators worldwide. This solution is not just about technology; it’s about empowering people and teams with the insights they need to make better decisions and drive real business value.”

The benefits to operators and engineers in particular include:

  • Optimized operator rounds: JO.AI provides insights to ensure operations teams are focusing their rounds on the correct checklists.
  • Data-driven checklist management: The solution recommends optimal frequency of checklist items, identifying areas with high-volume issues, and highlighting deviations.
  • Balanced workload: The solution ensures the checklist workload is appropriate for each shift.
  • Streamlined maintenance: JO.AI facilitates maintenance and work notification opportunities, recommending resource plans, and assisting operators in writing work orders.

“Digital transformation, especially with AI-powered solutions, is only as strong as the data foundation it’s built upon,” said Bill Hendricks, President of Cognite Americas. “Cognite accelerates time-to-value by enabling seamless integration and management of complex industrial data, providing the essential infrastructure for innovative applications like JO.AI. Working alongside a forward-thinking partner like Radix, who shares our commitment to pushing the boundaries of industrial innovation, we empower organizations to unlock unprecedented value from their data and drive real operational impact.”

Cognite Data Fusion (CDF) platform

The platform from JO.AI leverages an industrial DataOps platform product from Cognite. The solution streams a user’s data into the CDF data model where the data is normalized and enriched by adding connections between different types of data resources. It is then stored in an industrial knowledge graph in the cloud.

“Cognite was founded to solve the industrial data problem and deliver simple access to complex industrial data,” said Laxmi Akkaraju, Chief Customer Officer at Cognite. “Cognite Data Fusion liberates siloed data and enables reliable responses from Generative AI. By layering Radix’s expertise on top of our platform, we can quickly identify the root causes of operational problems and empower our customers to solve some of their most complex business problems.”

Radix and Cognite have collaborated for years now, utilizing collective strengths to deliver innovative solutions for customers. Through CDF’s innovative technology and Radix’s engineering intelligence, extracting key information from large data pools in non-integrated systems has become much easier for clients.

“Our partnership with Cognite has shown that we can bring our unique expertise together to empower companies with the hybrid intelligent tools they need to get to the data that becomes valuable and actionable information,” said Flavio Guimarães, Global Head of Alliances & Practices at Radix. “With Cognite Data Fusion, we help businesses streamline their data, thus helping to boost decision-making with real-time insights and drive cost reductions across the organization.”

AI and autonomy are set to be key areas for development this year, according to Accenture’s Technology Vision 2025 research report. Read more about the upcoming opportunities AI will bring to businesses this year.
