He is spending his first 60 days on the job behind the scenes, a spokeswoman said, meeting customers, learning about the organization and its operational methods, assessing its strengths and weaknesses and gaining an understanding of Intel’s value-add and how to increase it.

Davison most recently served as the director of North American retail sales and marketing for Intel, a position he has held since 2004. But his history at the company goes back much further. Davison joined Intel in 1979 as a field sales engineer and later held a variety of sales management positions including district sales manager, southwest regional manager and director HP world wide manager.

Before joining Intel he did a short stint with Netherlands-based Royal Philips Electronics at its Sunnyvale, Calif. location.

His expertise goes beyond sales. Davison graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor degree in Chemistry and a minor in Math/Physics in 1978

In related news, Hewlett-Packard also made some changes recently to its channel organization, appointing another a relatively unknown candidate as channel chief—Adrian Jones.
