Distributor Ingram Micro is starting a separate division aimed at VARs and solution providers that provide mobile and wireless products for their clients.

The Santa Ana, Calif., IT distributor announced Oct. 30 that all its wireless and mobile products would now fall under its Mobility Division.

Ingram will offer mobile and wireless devices from vendors Palm, Nokia, Motorola, Research In Motion and Good Technology.

In addition, the company will offer activation services from Cingular, Sprint Nextel and Verizon, Ingram said in a statement.

VARs and solution providers that use these carriers will receive their commissions faster, the company said.

Ingram officials see a lucrative market for VARs and solution providers that focus on these types of mobile and wireless solutions for their customers.

VARs can also make incremental revenue through providing users with not only the hardware, but the carrier service as well.

“This demand, which historically was handled through direct sales channels, represents a fresh market opportunity for solution and service providers to capture new revenues, assist with business needs and become a trusted advisor for the implementation of these new technologies,” said Ken Bast, Ingram’s vice president for mobile vendor management, in the statement.

The new division will also offer VARs additional online and sales training as well as technical and marketing support.
