Distributor Bell Microproducts kicked off a security awareness initiative with the addition of Procera Networks, a network traffic management and secure application vendor, to its line card.

Bell Microproducts, based in San Jose, Calif., primarily known for storage and infrastructure solutions, said it expects the initiative to attract security-focused solution providers, in addition to expanding the capabilities of the providers that already do business with Bell Microproducts.

“Expanding on our new data security and networking initiative, we expect to build sales force momentum, acquire new reseller customers and increase our market share in the security space,” said Gary Gammon, senior vice president of marketing for enterprise products at Bell Microproducts.

The relationship with Procera, based in Los Gatos, Calif., kick-starts the distributor’s foray into the security technology space, which Bell Microproducts plans to follow with additional security-focused partnerships throughout the fourth quarter, the company said.

Bell Microproducts is initially distributing only Procera’s intelligent and secure traffic management and authenticated remote access solutions, but the distributor plans to eventually add the vendor’s full portfolio.

Procera sought out Bell Microproducts because it wants to increase its channel presence and bolster the brand’s visibility, said Gary J. Johnson, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Procera.
