HPE is expanding its enterprise compute portfolio with four new ProLiant Gen13 servers powered by AMD’s latest EPYC processors, pairing higher-density infrastructure for AI workloads with new security and management capabilities to reduce the operational burden of increasingly distributed IT environments.

The HPE ProLiant DL525, DL585a, XD245 and XD285 Gen13 servers use 6th Gen AMD EPYC processors and are designed to increase compute density, memory bandwidth and I/O capacity. HPE is targeting workloads including AI inference and agentic AI, analytics, virtualization, simulation and modeling.

For channel partners, the launch creates a potential infrastructure modernization play that extends beyond hardware. HPE is tying its Gen13 refresh to security, centralized infrastructure management and operational efficiency — areas where partners can potentially layer assessment, migration, deployment and ongoing managed services around new server investments.

HPE targets AI inference and agentic workloads

The ProLiant DL585a Gen13 is the most AI-focused of the four systems announced. It supports up to eight double-wide PCIe GPUs, two 6th Gen AMD EPYC processors and PCIe Gen6 connectivity, with HPE targeting AI inference, retrieval-augmented generation model fine-tuning, virtualization, analytics and emerging agentic AI workloads.

The 1U ProLiant DL525 Gen13 uses a single AMD EPYC processor with up to 256 cores, while the OCP-compliant XD245 and XD285 are designed for dense, compute-intensive AI and high-performance computing environments. The XD245 uses direct liquid cooling, while the XD285 uses an air-cooled architecture, extending the design to a broader range of data centers.

“Organizations need to turn their investments in agentic AI and inference into business value without adding operational complexity or risk,” said Krista Satterthwaite, senior vice president and general manager of Compute at HPE. “For these workloads, HPE ProLiant Gen13 brings together optimized performance, built-in, automatic security, intelligent operations, and proven reliability.”

The ProLiant DL525 Gen13 is expected later in 2026, followed by the DL585a in early 2027 and the XD245 and XD285 during 2027.

Compute Ops Management strengthens the services opportunity

HPE is also pairing Gen13 with security through iLO 8 and centralized infrastructure management through HPE Compute Ops Management, a cloud-based SaaS platform that lets IT teams monitor, manage, update, and secure ProLiant servers across data centers and edge locations.

A September 2026 Forrester Consulting study commissioned by HPE provides more detail on the potential economics of that management layer. Forrester interviewed six Compute Ops Management customers managing between 280 and 16,000 ProLiant servers, then modeled the results around a composite organization operating 1,200 servers.

For that composite organization, Forrester calculated a 209% three-year ROI, $2.3 million in present-value benefits, and a payback period of less than six months. The model found a 50% reduction in server management time, 50% lower planned downtime, and 80% lower unplanned downtime.

The study also found an 80% reduction in time spent on server monitoring and data analysis and a 95% reduction in compliance audit preparation time.

Partners can target broader infrastructure lifecycle needs

Those efficiencies could be particularly relevant to MSPs and infrastructure partners managing distributed customer environments.

Forrester’s model found that 80% of edge-location service trips could be avoided through remote resolution, while interviewed customers also reported using automation for firmware updates, policy enforcement and compliance monitoring.

That potentially shifts the partner conversation from selling a faster server to helping customers manage the infrastructure lifecycle. Partners could use Gen13 refreshes as an opening to offer services around fleet management, firmware and security compliance, edge infrastructure, and AI readiness, while demonstrating operational savings alongside the performance case.
