Technology spend and risk intelligence organization Flexera recently announced that Mike Jerich has taken over as CEO.
Jerich currently serves as the organization’s President and will maintain both roles.
Jerich succeeds Jim Ryan, who will transition to Vice Chairman of Flexera’s Board of Directors and support Flexera’s long-term strategy and growth.
This move comes as Flexera launches a set of AI Cost Management capabilities and expands the Flexera One platform to deliver visibility, governance, and optimization of AI spend across the full AI technology stack.
We asked Jerich about his priorities across the business and for Flexera’s partners and customers in a Q&A following the announcement.
- What priorities will define your first year leading Flexera as CEO?
- Flexera has recently expanded its AI capabilities, including innovations in AI Cost Management. How do you see AI changing the way enterprises manage technology spend and risk?
- Your career spans more than 25 years in enterprise technology across several leadership roles. Which experiences have best prepared you to lead Flexera at this point in its growth?
- Last year when we spoke, you mentioned FinOps, ITAM, and SaaS management as increasingly intersecting. Since then, AI has become an even larger part of enterprise technology. How do you see AI continue to reshape that convergence?
- One of the themes from our interview last year was a customer-centric mindset. As CEO, what does being customer-centric look like in an era where organizations are moving so quickly to adopt AI?
- You also emphasized strengthening relationships with MSPs, distributors, and strategic partners in that June 2025 interview. What role will partners play in Flexera’s business strategy going forward with you at the helm?
What priorities will define your first year leading Flexera as CEO?
My priorities are simple: help customers control costs, strengthen the Flexera One platform, and continue building the market’s most complete view of technology spend and risk.
Over the past year as president, I’ve spent a lot of time with customers and partners. The messaging has been remarkably consistent. Technology environments are becoming more complex, AI is accelerating that complexity, and organizations are losing sight of where money is going. Flexera’s job is to help customers regain that control.
As CEO, my continued focus is on strengthening our Flexera One platform as the single system of record for technology spend and risk and expanding on the AI Cost Management capabilities recently added to the platform to deliver greater visibility and governance to our customers.
Flexera has recently expanded its AI capabilities, including innovations in AI Cost Management. How do you see AI changing the way enterprises manage technology spend and risk?
AI has moved from a productivity tool to something closer to a co-worker that reasons and orchestrates work on its own, changing the cost equation entirely. Most organizations were never designed to track AI spending across applications, cloud infrastructure, data platforms, and agents. As a result, many don’t know what they’re spending or who owns it.
AI investments are often managed in separate systems, but by separate teams with limited visibility. In fact, Flexera’s recent State of ITAM report found that only 31 percent of organizations report accurate visibility into AI software within their IT estate.
AI costs are not limited to models or tools; they show up across compute, applications, agents, workflows, and data infrastructure. Instead of creating another silo to track AI spend, customers need a single place to understand what they have, how it is used, what it costs, and where it creates risk.
Your career spans more than 25 years in enterprise technology across several leadership roles. Which experiences have best prepared you to lead Flexera at this point in its growth?
I’ve spent most of my career helping companies navigate major technology shifts. What I’ve learned is that technology changes faster than organizations do, and the winners are usually the companies that adopt early, stay close to their customers, and remain disciplined about execution.
My time as President of Flexera has prepared me with a deep understanding of our customers, partners, people, and the opportunity ahead. I’ve worked with many technology companies navigating industry shifts, and as AI adoption accelerates, my experience helping organizations respond to fast-moving change is closely aligned with what Flexera’s customers need from us today.
Last year when we spoke, you mentioned FinOps, ITAM, and SaaS management as increasingly intersecting. Since then, AI has become an even larger part of enterprise technology. How do you see AI continue to reshape that convergence?
AI is accelerating the convergence between FinOps, ITAM, and SaaS management. An agentic workflow can touch multiple technology assets within a single transaction. These areas can no longer be managed separately if companies want to understand the full cost or value of an AI initiative.
That’s why we built AI Cost Management as part of the broader Flexera platform rather than as a standalone product. Customers need a unified view of how AI affects their broader technology estate and budget.

One of the themes from our interview last year was a customer-centric mindset. As CEO, what does being customer-centric look like in an era where organizations are moving so quickly to adopt AI?
Being customer-centric means focusing on the problems customers are talking about right now. For many organizations, AI cost control is at the top of that list.
Customers don’t need another vendor telling them AI is important. They already know that. They need help understanding what they’re spending, where the risk is, and how to scale responsibly. Customer-centricity at Flexera also means helping customers innovate and adopt quickly while implementing the necessary guardrails to succeed.
Ultimately, our platform must remain flexible and develop with industry needs as organizations move quickly and require greater visibility into the scale and scope of their AI investments.
You also emphasized strengthening relationships with MSPs, distributors, and strategic partners in that June 2025 interview. What role will partners play in Flexera’s business strategy going forward with you at the helm?
Partners remain core to how Flexera reaches and supports customers, especially as the AI cost problem cuts across MSPs, distributors, and cloud and SaaS providers all at once.
Our recent strategic acquisitions like ProsperOps and Chaos Genius extend what Flexera and its partners can jointly offer around automated cost reporting and workload optimization. We will continuously invest in the support, expertise, and partnership collaboration customers and partners expect from Flexera.
