Hosvara Inc. has acquired Dr. Backup, a cloud backup provider serving nearly 100 MSPs across the United States and Canada, expanding the holding company’s portfolio of MSP-focused businesses.

While the terms of the transaction were not disclosed, Dr. Backup will operate as Dr. Backup, A Hosvara Company, with founder Mitch Romm remaining as a strategic advisor for the next year.

The deal also expands Hosvara’s growing portfolio of MSP-focused businesses. Dr. Backup joins Sibyl, an MSP coaching company, under Hosvara’s operator-led holding company model. For channel partners, the acquisition is notable because Hosvara is positioning its strategy around preserving established MSP businesses while adding infrastructure and product development resources rather than folding them into a larger platform.

Hosvara plans continuity for Dr. Backup partners

Founded in 2002, Dr. Backup provides cloud backup services designed for MSPs and their customers.

Hosvara said existing partners will continue using the same platform and working with the same support team following the acquisition. The company plans to provide additional infrastructure and product development resources behind the business.

“Mitch built something the channel actually trusted — that doesn’t happen by accident, and it’s not something we’re interested in disrupting,” said Nancy Henriquez, chief executive officer at Hosvara.

“Our job now is to give Dr. Backup’s partners the same platform they’ve relied on for years, backed by more resources to keep investing in it. This is what Hosvara is built to do — bring proven MSP-focused businesses into a home where they can keep growing instead of getting swallowed up.”

Thomas Rechtien, chief operating officer of Hosvara, similarly emphasized continuity for current MSP customers.

“For MSP partners, day one looks the same as day none — same platform, same support team, same relationships,” Rechtien said. “What changes is what’s behind it: more infrastructure investment, more roadmap resources, and a company built specifically to serve MSPs for the long haul.”

Dr. Backup founder stays through transition

Romm, who founded Dr. Backup and built the company around its MSP partner base, will remain involved as a strategic advisor over the next year to support a smooth transition for partners and staff.

“I built this company one partner relationship at a time, and handing it off isn’t something I took lightly,” Romm said. “I’m staying close to this transition because our partners deserve that continuity.”

Hosvara describes itself as an operator-led holding company focused on MSP-oriented businesses. Henriquez has previously founded and exited MSP businesses, while Rechtien serves as the company’s COO.
