August was marked by organizations continuing to make significant acquisitions to keep pace in the AI race.

Billions of dollars are changing hands to make this possible, including a hefty purchase by the world’s largest company.

As we roll into the final third of Q3 for 2026, we’ve recapped the major acquisitions that have impacts across the channel. Check them out below.

Blockbuster AI acquisitions reshape the technology market

NVIDIA acquires Hugging Face for $12.9B

Note: this news broke on September 3, but given its importance to the AI industry, we’ve included it here.

NVIDIA has announced the acquisition of Hugging Face, an open-source platform for AI and machine learning, for a sticker price of $12,930,300,000.

Jensen Huang, NVIDIA’s founder and CEO, says that NVIDIA will “scale Hugging Face’s platform, strengthen its infrastructure, and expand access to AI for developers and institutions worldwide.”

“Hugging Face will remain an open platform for the entire AI ecosystem. Developers will choose the models they want, the frameworks they want, the clouds and inference service providers they want, and the computing platforms they want,” writes Huang in a blog post. “NVIDIA compute will not be required to build on or deploy through Hugging Face.”

AWS buys DuckLabs

AWS has acquired DuckLabs, the organization that has developed the DuckDB analytical database, to deepen its analytics capabilities surrounding data stored in its cloud.

DuckLabs’ more than 30 employees, including co-founders Hannes Mühleisen and Mark Raasveldt, are expected to join AWS in early September.

According to AWS, DuckDB is well suited to AI agents, which often run smaller, exploratory queries before deciding what larger analysis they need.

For DuckLabs, the acquisition means it can better address concerns about its growth after surpassing 1 million daily downloads. The acquisition also fits AWS’ broader push toward agentic AI.

Stripe acquires OpenRouter for $7.5B

Stripe, a programmable financial services company, is acquiring OpenRouter, an AI model gateway and routing platform.

OpenRouter is an organization that routes and optimizes token usage across 400+ models from more than 80 providers.

Combined, Stripe and OpenRouter will help companies manage both sides of profitability in the AI era: maximizing revenue and efficacy while minimizing costs.

“Tokens are the central currency for companies building with AI, and it’s clear that the real-world economic potential will depend on making good use of scarce compute resources,” said Patrick Collison, co-founder and CEO of Stripe.

“Stripe is building the economic infrastructure for AI, and together with OpenRouter, we’ll help businesses maximize profitability by routing their requests intelligently and spending their tokens efficiently.”

It helps customers get up and running faster and realize value sooner, while creating new opportunities for partners to support their adoption.”

Bangert’s construction expertise, combined with AI-enabled guidance and a proven implementation approach, will strengthen Sage Intacct Construction and create a scalable foundation for future AI-enabled onboarding and customer experiences.

Security M&A expands into AI protection and observability

Fortinet to acquire Virtue AI

Cybersecurity provider Fortinet has announced the acquisition of Virtue AI, an innovator in AI runtime protection, automated AI validation, and security for autonomous AI systems.

The move will amplify Fortinet’s security strategy and vision for AI and the agentic enterprise, including its FortiGate Hyperscale Firewall solution.

“AI is fundamentally changing enterprise computing, and security must evolve just as quickly,” said Ken Xie, Founder, Chairman of the Board, and CEO at Fortinet. “Virtue AI’s technology will advance our vision for continuous AI assurance, helping customers govern and protect AI systems throughout their lifecycle and operate them confidently at enterprise scale.”

The acquisition complements FortiAIGate, introduced earlier this year to safeguard LLMs from prompt injections, data leakage, model poisoning, excessive resource consumption, and other emerging AI-specific risks.

It will also strengthen Fortinet’s AI runtime security capabilities by adding Virtue AI’s automated validation and real-time protection.

Infoblox acquires Kentik

Infoblox, a preemptive security and critical network services platform, has announced its acquisition of Kentik, a network intelligence and observability company.

Infoblox will advance its broader platform strategy by adding Kentik’s real-time network intelligence and observability to its foundation of critical network services, asset visibility, and preemptive security.

Kentik provides live operational intelligence from network flow, routing, path, and performance data. It provides deeper context into how traffic moves and services perform across complex hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

“AI is transforming how organizations operate enterprise infrastructure, but its value depends on the quality of the data that informs every decision,” said Scott Harrell, president and CEO of Infoblox.

“Kentik adds powerful operational intelligence that enriches that data. Together, we’re advancing the Infoblox vision for an AI-driven platform that brings networking, security, and visibility together to help customers simplify operations, improve cyber resilience, and build the trusted data foundation required for the next generation of AI-driven operations,” Harrell adds.

Infoblox’s authoritative infrastructure context and Kentik’s real-time operational intelligence will help organizations better understand, operate, and secure increasingly complex hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

Brinqa to acquire PlexTrac

Brinqa, an exposure management organization for enterprise security teams, has acquired PlexTrac, a platform for offensive security validation, workflow, and reporting.

Through the acquisition, Brinqa adds the ability to verify that remediation actually works, and positions Brinqa to identify and prioritize the exposure that matters most, drive remediation, and prove a fix has been held – closing the CTEM loop.

“We’ve spent over a decade building the platform enterprise security teams trust to prioritize what to fix first,” said Dan Pagel, CEO, Brinqa. “PlexTrac brings real offensive security depth, from practitioners who have spent years proving exactly how attackers get in. Pairing that expertise with our exposure assessment platform gives customers proof they can defend to a board, an auditor, or any AI system acting on that data.”

For PlexTrac customers, pentest teams and workflows now plug directly into a CTEM program instead of sitting next to one. PlexTrac solutions will continue operating as standalone offerings.

Brinqa’s customers get faster confirmation that a fix worked, and evidence to back up what security teams report to auditors, insurers, and the board.

Dynatrace acquires Arize

Dynatrace, an AI-powered observability platform, is acquiring Arize, a unified AI observability and LLM evaluation platform.

Through the acquisition, customers will be enabled to evaluate, operate, and continuously improve AI applications from development through production at scale.

“AI is now moving into production at incredible speed, and the resulting AI Observability market opportunity is enormous. Dynatrace anticipates customers’ needs at critical inflection points, and this is one of the most significant in our history,” said Rick McConnell, CEO, Dynatrace.

“Acquiring Arize advances our AI observability leadership, accelerates our roadmap, enhances our long-term growth profile, expands our reach with the developer community, and adds an incredible AI-first team to Dynatrace.”

Nasuni acquires DryvIQ

Nasuni is expanding its unstructured data management capabilities by acquiring DryvIQ.

Nasuni will add content intelligence, classification, and governance tools to help enterprises prepare data for secure AI use and bring DryvIQ’s technology into the Nasuni File Data Platform.

By bringing DryvIQ’s technology into the platform, Nasuni customers will be able to discover and classify content, identify sensitive information, and apply automated governance policies across more than 40 cloud and on-premises repositories.

“Organizations are increasingly focused on turning unstructured data into a strategic asset, but content is scattered across dozens of repositories, and most of it has never been classified,” said Mark Brazeau, Founder and Chief Strategy Officer at DryvIQ. “By joining Nasuni, we can bring our content intelligence and governance capabilities directly into a cloud-native file platform, giving customers a single, governed foundation to classify, protect, and activate data wherever it lives.”
