Databricks Ventures — the investment arm of Databricks — is investing in AI and data consultancy firm Indicium, strengthening the ties between the long-term partners.

Longtime partners will now work more closely on AI and data solutions

Partners since 2017, working on modernizing data platforms and delivering AI solutions to enterprises, this new investment will help Indicium integrate further with Databricks’ product roadmap, including Agent Bricks and Lakebase, engineering resources, go-to-market efforts and training.

Going forward, Indicium will work more closely with Databricks on features such as advanced AI capabilities, Unity Catalog enhancements, and Lakehouse upgrades. They will also work more closely to co-develop AI and data solutions.

“At Databricks, we’re committed to advancing how enterprises unlock the full power of data and AI,” said Kori O’Brien, senior vice president at Databricks. “Indicium’s expertise in leading large-scale data and AI projects on Databricks has been instrumental for organizations modernizing mission-critical systems. By deepening our collaboration, we’re accelerating innovation, expanding adoption of the Data Intelligence Platform, and driving measurable business value for customers worldwide.”

Funding comes as AI deployments grow rapidly year-over-year

According to Databricks’ latest State of Data + AI report, there was an 11-fold increase in AI model deployments year-over-year, with around 70 percent of companies exploring generative AI use cases.

Early success with joint efforts is evident in Latin America

Among use cases that have seen the combined power of Databricks and Indicium features the largest gas company in Latin America. Copa Energia partnered with Indicium to transform its fragmented and manual credit approval process into a proprietary, AI-powered engine on Databricks.

The engine was built on the Lakehouse platform and enhanced with Mosaic AI, the solution unified internal and external data, automated evaluations, and embedded governance end-to-end.

This teaming ultimately resulted in real-time credit decisions, full autonomy over data and models, and a measurable annual risk reduction of $2.5 million USD. Copa’s financial team was able to shift its focus from repetitive tasks to strategic analysis and business growth by freeing up more than 270 hours per month from manual reviews.

Indicium’s AI Data Squads for Databricks migrations

An example of Indicium and Databricks’ extensive collaboration was the introduction of AI Data Squads as a Service, which provides expertise across Databricks migrations.

This service is a delivery model designed to help organizations accelerate complex migrations, modernize platforms, enhance data quality, and lay the foundation for operational intelligence.

“AI can accelerate delivery, but the real value comes from combining automation with hands-on expertise and platform depth,” said Daniel Avancini, chief data officer at Indicium. “Our teams bring together years of experience with Databricks and dbt, enhanced by agents that streamline the work without cutting corners. That is how customers modernize faster and build with confidence.”

Each AI Data Squad is a hybrid team that combines certified engineers and consultants with embedded AI agents, providing expertise across Databricks, dbt Cloud, and the modern data stack. Each team offers platform fluency, structured delivery, and practical insight for every engagement and can adapt to each organization.

Recently, Databricks received a large infusion of funding to expand AI agents, Lakebase, and global growth. Read more about the plans Databricks has for its $100B+ Series K funding round.
